Healthy weight: vital whatever your age

Being overweight puts an increased risk on your long-term health, and can even shorten your life. Making the right food choices and being active are essential in maintaining a healthy weight.

Fad diets may seem like a quick fix, but aren’t effective in the long run. Eating a healthy, balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health, and can help you feel your best. This means eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions, and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.

Most people in the UK eat and drink too many calories, too much saturated fat, sugar and salt, and not enough fruit, vegetables, oily fish and fibre.
